Football Sandwiches - Delicious Hot Ham & Cheese sliders


These little beauties are called football sandwiches. They do sound like great food for watching a game. I decided to whip them up for Super Bowl Sunday. I know, it does you a lot of good to blog about football sandwiches when football season is over, but I figure I'm giving you a few month to perfect them or maybe you can enjoy them while watch English football (soccer.)   These sandwiches are delicious ham and cheese sliders with a buttery sauce and are good for any sporting event or occasion.

The ingredient list includes thin-sliced deli ham, Swiss cheese, soft square white rolls, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, butter, sesame seeds and a small shallot.  Start by pre-heating your oven to 350 degrees.


I used 12 King's Hawaiian rolls. They are slightly sweet and I enjoy that.


Split them with a serrated knife.


Spread each side of the roll with mustard. I used honey Dijon. You can use any kind that you like.


Place the bottom halves of the rolls in a 13" by 9" pan.


Take a slice of ham and fold it into a square so that it fits the roll.


Place a folded square of ham on each of your rolls.



Now you can either fold or cut your Swiss cheese to fit on top of the ham. I would suggest sticking with Swiss. Other cheese like cheddar have more fat and could make your sandwiches greasy.


Now put the tops on.


Now time to make the sauce. Finely dice a shallot (you can use a little bit of onion of you like, but I prefer the taste of shallots.


In a microwave safe container, combine the shallots with 4 tablespoons of room temperature butter, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds and 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce.


Heat for 40 seconds in the microwave. Stir to combine and then add a tablespoon of mustard.


Brush the tops of the rolls with the mixture.


Make sure each roll is coated.


Then spoon the remaining mixture over the sandwiches.


Make sure each sandwich had plenty of sauce.


Cover with foil and let the sauce soak in for about 15 minutes.


Bake at 350 for twenty minutes then remove the foil.


Put the sandwiches back in the oven for another 10 minutes until they get a little bit brown.


I have to say, these are pretty darn tasty.


It's a great snack for a big game, movie night or even to take to a pot luck.
